I got my check from my grandmother's life insurance.  It's not much, but I think I will get my plane ticket to P4 now.

OMG have you seen the prices? I wonder if it would be wise to buy now in case the cost goes up and up.

I can get a ticket for around $1000 US but I'd have to do a layover in Chicago.  Chicago.  In January.  I'd rather stick a knife under my fingernail.

I think I might try the midnight on Wednesday trick.  Cheapest fare.  I'm also doing the Expedia and Orbitz email when the price changes email.  I was hoping for around $800.  HAHAHA.  Oh well.

Anyone know of any super-secret lowfare sites that won't make me do 3 layovers?

Did you try Hotwire? They also do an e-mail notification for rate drop on a particular fare. I'm still holding out a little hope for Gatecon and Hotmail came up with a $610 flight from New Orleans to Vancouver with one hop, so they might find something better for you.

I can wait until my Mom's probate is over and we sell her house, but my lawyer keeps reminding me that this could take over a year.

I'll give Hotwire a try. I might also dump the check into savings and get some interest until a cheaper flight comes up. But I hopr to buy no later than September.

Too bad we can't do Meet the Hewletts next week. *jealous*

Oh yeah, no kidding! *pouts*

I've always been lucky with flying through Dulles in the winter. In the 9 years that I lived in the area, we'd only had a few really bad winter storms and we cleared out from under them much quicker than other storm affected places.

I can try that, too. I just want to avoid missing a flight.

There's a great one on AirCanada. Fly from Seattle to Vancouver (20 minutes or so) then to London. Maybe it would save me some money to fly out of there!

Plane ticket prices are ridiculous! O'Hare in January - I don't think so... that was one of my options last year - I wound up taking southwest to LA and getting a non-stop to London on Air New Zealand. Unfortunately there aren't any non-stops from Phoenix except on British Airways and they don't fly one of the days I want (I'll be doing the Wed flight too and fly back on Mon. - a day and a half to play tourist and adjust to the time change).

My secret websites are kayak.com and farecompare.com - both are good for sorting through prices (kayak especially) and giving you the history of fare prices. I'm gong to try to wait until Aug. or September for my tickets and hope trends follow last year's - prices dropped after Labor Day. Good luck and let me know if you find anything good (and yes I'm a little ocd when it comes to finding cheap tickets).

I'll check them out. I might wait until fall, but no later than September. I was hoping to use my money from my Mom's estate, but my lawyer told me it could take a year to settle.

And we all know that gas prices aren't going down anytime soon!

Yeah, I know what you mean about gas prices - I'll be happy when the weather cools a little so I can take public transit again (as a grad student I get a free pass), but waiting for the bus now isn't healthy - we've had 10 days of 110+ temps.

as far as plane tickets go, I'm trying to decide if I want to spend a little extra and use my miles to upgrade - I'e got enough to upgrade one way from coach to business. Might be nice on the way back.

110? Ouch!

Do the upgrade. There is not much in life that is more unpleasant that flying internation in coach
