I have no idea when probate will close, and the trailer isn't even on the market yet, but I am thinking of spending some of my inheritance. On a car.

D'oh!

Do any of you guys know anyone with a 06 or later VW Rabbit or a Toyota Prius?

These are my two choices right now.  The Prius will save me in the long run, but is over $20k.  The Rabbit's MPG isn't great, but it's cute and more in my price range.

Well, you know in which city I live, so I know lots of people with a VW Rabbit, but unfortunately that won't help you much, I guess. :S

I'm biased of course as I practically grew up with VWs, so for me the Rabbit (I hate that US name, the car has a different name in Germany) is still one of the greatest cars for everyday use. It's big enough, has everything you need, with the right engine it's incredibly powerful and fast and is great to handle especially on the autobahn and it has probably the smoothest gearshift I ever came across in a car. But I guess especially the latter is not very important to you. :D

See video here for the Rabbit: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=119274 I love the name! It's cute. We had a '80 Rabbit back in the 80s and both my Mom & Brother drove late 80s early 90s Foxes. We looked at some at a dealer last night and I fell in love. For the speed, you really can't drive the same speeds as on the autobahn, but it's nice enough for city driveing *AND* it will be easy to park in the city.

Oooh, new car! I vote for the Prius (if you can spring for it).

Base model of the Prius is over $20k, so that is a downside. But the 48 mpg helps quite a bit! When time comes to test drive, I will check both of them out. I've ridden in a Prius before and it's not bad. For the Rabbit, I can customize it and it will still be under $18k.
