Eek.  I just found out the woman who lived down the hall from me died last week and they didn't find her for 4 days. 

Goodness.  I didn't know her well as she kept to herself, but it's sad.  No one checked on her ever.

Wow. I really hope I'm not old and alone when I die. Did she die in her sleep or what?

She had cancer. I just found out since I also work for my landlord. I would speak to her sometimes, but she usually just walked past me and into her house. If I had known, I would have checked in on her. Really sad.

Yeah. Next time I meet a neighbor who keeps to themselves, I'm going to try to make an effort.

I can easily imagine it happening, and I feel so sad for her.

When I lived alone (many years back), I caught a bad dose of flu. I was so ill that I couldn't move from my bed - sweat soaked sheets, the lot. I could hear the phone ringing occasionally but no one came round and I thought I was going to die all alone and not be found for days!

I live alone, too. And I am planning on moving across the country where I don't know anyone. It's a fear of mine too. I wish I had known as I would have made more of an effort.

Perhaps it's a good warning to make friends with the new neighbors after your move - even just the occasional coffee and cake!
