Interesting hearing some people's reactions to the news last night that Bin Laden is dead.  It's the whole "This doesn't change anything" or "I'm against all death, so I'm appalled that people are celebrating."

I don't know anyone killed in 911.  I don't know (as far as I know) who has been killed in fighting. I'm not a "US #1! We never make mistakes" person.  My concern is the 3000+ people killed on 9/11/01.  My concern is the countless thousands killed since then overseas. This person was the mastermind of those murders.  You telling me that if you found out that someone who was responsible for deaths of thousands is dead and you don't see the relief in that?  I'm not taking about America vs. the World, I'm talking about basic human decency.  This doesn't solve everything- but a chance to pause and celebrate a victory for a day.

And there is always those who want to piss on any parade.

I am glad to hear that sicko has finally been wiped off this earth.

You're right---this is about basic human decency. Not about US is #1 or US vs. the World. Bin Laden fomented hatred and violence in the name of "religion." He deserved to be brought to justice in whatever way was necessary.

And unfortunately, no this does not eliminate the terrorism threat. But that doesn't mean it didn't need to be done.

exactly! I'm not even American and I cheered when I heard the news. I remember 9/11 vividly as most people do and this man is behind atrocious things (up there with Hitler) and am glad that he is gone even though I don't necessarily believe in capital punishment, and this doesn't eliminate terrorism, probably not by a long shot.

I'm not comfortable celebrating death, but I'm glad he's no longer a threat.

My concern is that his followers will retaliate. That's the biggest problem with this situation, imo.

I don't begrudge anyone being glad that he's been dealt with, tho.

I saw a few people opting to not celebrate but no one attempted to harsh my squee. Good thing for them. I would not have been kind.

I cried and laughed for hours last night. Today, the aggressive side of me is almost sorry that our government and military acted in a decent manner regarding his corpse. His supporters have dragged the burning bodies of our soldiers through the streets. A woman was used as a human shield during his final stand. If it were up to me, his head would be on a spike on the lawn of the White House, medieval style. Good thing I'm not in charge.
