California = 3rd world
Feb. 3rd, 2008 04:40 pm I finally found a free WiFi cafe. You'd think that there would be more, wouldn't you? I'm DLing "Outcast" and thought I'd check in.
Tomorrow we have an appointment with a mortuary for the cremation. I have no idea how long it will take, but it will be fine. We're still trying to find an updated phonebook so I can call relatives in So Cal. I asked bro to call our father, but he said he didn't want to. And since it's been since the early 90s since last time we spoke to him, I'm inclined to agree.
We have the trailer about 1/4 cleaned out. There is more stuff to donate to charity than garbage, so that is good. Friends of the family are swinging by Wednesday to do a dump run. They also brought over some food, so that is good. Bro and I ate at Carl's Jr tonight since they don't have them in Washington. Living it up! And if it stops raining, we're planning on going out for a drink tonight. (in fact, he's at the bar next to this cafe).
I'm still planning on having a small memorial to release the ashes at the beach sometime soon. Bro thinks it's illegal, but when I told that to the chaplian at Stanford, they thought that was a wonderful idea.
It's weird being in my Mom's place without her. She moved into the park after I moved to Seattle, so it's not creepy or anything, but it is odd seeing all her stuff and deciding who wants what. Bro & I decided that everything is to be split 50/50 except the items that were promised to me. He's still living overseas, so there is so much that he can take with him before he needs to spend a bunch of money that he really doesn't have. I haven't lost it in 2 days, but I know that once I am back home I will.
Outcast done. Now to DL Harmony.
I need to check with U-Haul to see how much money it will cost to rent a van or smaller truck to Seattle. So far, I have a hutch, two wooden chests, a 5ft X 3ft charcoal sketch of some great great great grandfather, and 6 boxes full of the antique dining set (the one with the silver rim that every piece survived the 1989 earthquake) and some odds and ends. My grandmother's grandfather clock is there, but it's actually not worth anything. She bought it in the 80s and it's particle board. And I really don't have room for it.
When I get a chance, I will post my P3 pics and review. I will also buy my P4 ticket as soon as I get back to Seattle. Until then, this will have to do:
